Schmidt to become a Spartan!

FZN Senior DJ Schmidt signs to play baseball for Missouri Baptist.

FZN Senior DJ (Donald Joseph) Schmidt recently accepted an athletic scholarship from Missouri Baptist University. Schmidt plans to play baseball for the Spartans. Missouri Baptist boasts a tradition rich baseball program making multiple appearances in the NAIA World Series. Competing as a member of the American Midwest Conference, MO-BAP qualified for the 2017 NAIA World Series last spring. The Spartans finished the 2017 season with a 45 - 16 overall mark and were ranked ninth in the final NAIA poll. Schmidt is a sleek outfielder, who has been a mainstay in the Fort Zumwalt North line-up since his sophomore year. During that time Schmidt batted .342 for the Panthers from the lead-off spot while playing flawlessly in the outfield. For his efforts, Schmidt was named to the GAC Central "All-Conference" second team in each of the past two seasons. The Panther baseball team has claimed District titles in each of Schmidt's seasons with the varsity team. Schmidt is also a member of the highly regarded St. Louis Prospects baseball club. This past summer, while a member of the Prospects, Schmidt carried a .400 average playing against some of the most competitive teams in the mid-west.
