Sports Report: Winter Sports Get Back to Business

Week 8 of the winter season is packed with big games around St. Charles County.

The second week of January and the eighth week of the winter sports season is actually a return to normalcy.

For the first time in many weeks, schedules don't have to worry about holidays. The result? A jam-packed week full of games.

Here are some games to watch this week around St. Charles County.

  • Who: (Boys basketball) Fort Zumwalt North vs. Ritenour
  • When/Where: 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, at Ritenour
  • Why the big deal?: The Zumwalt North boys basketball team has just one game this week. North will hit the road for a non-conference game against Ritenour.

  • Who: (Girls basketball) Zumwalt West vs. Marquette
  • When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at home
  • Why the big deal?: Fort Zumwalt West gets a chance to have a home game against a non-conference foe. Zumwalt West will host Marquette on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

  • Who: (Boys basketball) Zumwalt South vs. Holt
  • When/Where: 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 13, at home
  • Why the big deal?: Zumwalt South's boys basketball team is going to be pretty busy this week with three games in five days. The Bulldogs will close out the week with a Friday night home game against Holt.    

  • Who: (Girls swimming) Zumwalt East vs. Zumwalt South 
  • When/Where: 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at the . 
  • Why the big deal?: Zumwalt East will get a chance to to swim for St. Peters bragging rights on Monday. East will take on Zumwalt South at the Rec-Plex at 3:30 p.m. 

  • Who: (Girls basketball) St. Dominic vs. Rosati-Kain
  • When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at home
  • Why the big deal?: The St. Dominic girls will jump out of the weekend with a Monday matchup against Rosati-Kain. St. Dominic is 7-5 on the season.

  • Who: (Girls basketball) Christian vs. Whitfield
  • When/Where: 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at Whitfield
  • Why the big deal?: Christian kicks off the week with a road game against Whitfield.

  • Who: (Girls basketball) Lutheran vs. Bishop DuBourg 
  • When/Where: 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at home. 
  • Why the big deal?: Lutheran's girls basketball team will finish up a three-game home stay on Monday night. The Lady Cougars will take on Bishop DuBourg in an AAA matchup. 

Francis Howell Central

  • Who: (Boys basketball) Howell Central vs. St. Charles
  • When/Where: 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at the Washington Invitational
  • Why the big deal?: The Howell Central boys basketball team will get a chance to spend the week in lovely Washington, MO, for the Washington Invitational. The Spartans will open the tournament against St. Charles. 

  • Who: (Girls basketball) Howell North vs. Orchard Farm
  • When/Where: 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 9, at the Warrenton Shootout
  • Why the big deal?: The Francis Howell North girls will get a chance to improve its standing this season with a series of game at the Warrenton Shootout. Howell North opens up the tourney with a first-round tilt against Orchard Farm.

  • Who: (Boys basketball) Duchesne vs. Chaminade
  • When/Where: 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Kirkwood Tournament
  • Why the big deal?: The Duchesne boys basketball team will take part in the eight-team Kirkwood tournament starting on Thursday. The Pioneers will open the tourney with a matchup against Chaminade. 

Orchard Farm

  • Who: (Boys basketball) Orchard Farm vs. Elsberry
  • When/Where: 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at home
  • Why the big deal?: Orchard Farm's boys basketball has just one game this week, but it's an important one. The Eagles, at home, will take on Elsberry in an EMO Conference matchup.

  • Who: (Wrestling) St. Charles at the St. Charles Invitational
  • When/Where: Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14 at home
  • Why the big deal?: The St. Charles wrestling team will get to stay home this week for a big tournamet. The Pirates will be hosting the St. Charles Invitational, a two-day matchup of teams from around the area.

  • Who: (Girls swimming) St. Charles West vs. Francis Howell North 
  • When/Where: 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Howell North
  • Why the big deal?: The St. Charles West girls swim team has two road meets this week. The second one, the girls will hit the pool against Francis Howell North.

  • Who: (Girls swimming) Timberland vs. Francis Howell and Francis Howell North
  • When/Where: 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Francis Howell
  • Why the big deal?: The last time the Timberland girls were in the pool for a meet, people still a week to shop for Christmas gifts. For the first time in nearly a month, Timberland is back in the pool for a three-way meet against Francis Howell and Francis Howell North.

  • Who: (Wrestling) Holt vs. CBC/Whitfield/Timberland
  • When/Where: 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 at home
  • Why the big deal?: The Holt wrestling team will have a big test on Thursday. Not only with the Indians face Wentzville rivals Timberland, but Holt will also be hitting the mat against CBC and Whitfield for a quad meet.
