Trixie Delight Takes Delight In Rocking Out

Band performs as part of O'Fallon Jammin'.

Get ready to rock, O'Fallon, because Trixie Delight is this week's featured band at the O'Fallon Jammin' summer concert series.

The outdoor performance runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in . Bring blankets or chairs for seating on the lawn around the bandstand. Admission and parking are free, and concessions will be available for purchase.

Trixie Delight was formed in 2001 by Leslie C and Kelly Wild, veterans of the local rock scene. "I've been in bands since I was 15—20 years," Wild said.

Wild was raised around music. "My mom played ukulele and piano and my dad sang in piano bars," she said. "It kinda seeped in somehow. I love music."

Eleven years ago, Wild hooked up with the group that she currently fronts. "My friend Leslie and I left the band Boom to form a new band," Wild said. "We called up some musician friends of ours and put the band together."

Leslie C came up with the band's name, which is based on the character played by Madeline Kahn in the movie Paper Moon from 1972. "That was one of her favorite movies," Wild said.

Leslie C moved to Nashville, TN six years ago, which left Wild as the lone lead singer. The current lineup includes Steve Bunck on drums, Jerry Boschert and Obeid Khan on guitars and Logan Detering on bass.

The band specializes in rock 'n' roll. "Everything from Janis Joplin and The Doors to what you currently hear on the radio," Wild said.

And if the song doesn't rock, they'll make it rock. "Anything peppy or dance, we'll put a rock edge on it," Wild said. "If we do a Lady Gaga song, we'll put rock on it."

Trixie Delight has a song list of 140 songs, including classic tunes from artists such as AC/DC, The Who, The Pretenders, Prince and Pearl Jam. You may notice most of those bands have male lead singers.

"Mostly we do songs with male leads," Wild said. "Out of a 13 to 14 song set, maybe three or four will have a female lead."

Wild has shown that she can sing Jim Morrison just as well as Stevie Nicks.

"When I was a little kid I would mimic cartoon voices," Wild said. "Then I started mimicking singers and just kept doing it. Janis Joplin is hard to do, so is AC/DC. Ones the come more naturally are Heart and Adele.

"It's definitely a challenge. Someone in the band will come in with a new song, and I always feel like I don't know if I can do it until we try."

The band keeps busy playing bars, festivals, weddings and other events. "We work every Friday and Saturday, pretty much. Two or three shows a week," Wild said. "When we play festivals, we keep it family-friendly, but when we do the rock 'n' roll clubs anything goes."

The O'Fallon Jammin' series concludes next Tuesday with a performance by Mirage. This concert had to be rescheduled from an earlier date.
