FZN Senior Connor Turnbull recently signed a “Letter of Intent” to play basketball at Butler University, located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Turnbull has been a member of the varsity program at North High for three seasons. Last year, the Panthers completed their finest season on record, as the team advanced to the state’s “Final Four” for the first time in school history. Turnbull played a vital role in the team’s success. On the offensive end, Turnbull averaged nearly 15 points a game while pulling down 7.3 rebounds a game. But it was his defensive ability that stood out among his peers, as he recorded an astonishing 150 blocks during the 2020 – 2021 campaign. He is currently the school record holder at FZN for career blocks with a season still left to play. For his efforts last season, Turnbull was placed on both the “All-Conference” and “All-State” squads. In addition to his high school play, Turnbull garnered accolades as a member of Brad Beal’s Elite AAU program. Last summer, the Elite squad finished 2nd in the AAU National Championships. Games that were televised by ESPN.
Butler University is a tradition rich basketball program that competes in the prestigious Big East conference. The Bulldogs have appeared in 16 NCAA tournaments, reaching the finals in 2010 and again in 2011. Butler plays their home games in the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, which was featured in the film “Hoosiers.” Turnbull chose Butler over a number of other suitors based on the program’s coaching staff and overall school environment. He plans on studying business.
