ā¢ Lightning strike sparks house fire in Republic (ozarksfirst.com) ā An early-morning lightning strike set the roof of a home on East New Madrid Drive in Republic on fire, but the resident escaped safely and damage was contained mainly to the roof. Fire crews quickly controlled the blaze, stayed on scene to fully extinguish hot spots, and assessed the extent of the damage for the homeowner.

ā¢ Plan to replace Missouri income tax with expanded sales tax heads to voters (blogspot.com) ā A major statewide tax proposal backed by Rep. Bishop Davidson of Republic would gradually eliminate Missouriās income tax by expanding the sales tax to many more goods and services, if voters approve it later this year. Supporters say it will spur growth, while critics warn it could shift more of the tax burden onto lower- and middle-income Missourians, including families in Republic. Ā Ā Ā
