1. Serving the Ozarks: Youth Connect Center (ozarksfirst.com) — In Springfield, the Youth Connect Center is filling all 10 beds most weeknights as it shelters local teens who would otherwise sleep on the streets. A new partnership with the GLO Center now keeps the center open Monday through Friday nights, and organizers are asking for more volunteers to help provide a safe, stable place for youth to rest and prepare for school or work.
   

2. Companies donating proceeds to Springfield Public Schools amid state funding decrease (ozarksfirst.com) — Springfield businesses Rapid Roberts, Hiland Dairy, and Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr Pepper are donating a share of profits through Sept. 7 to support Springfield Public Schools grants after statewide funding cuts. The Foundation for Springfield Public Schools says the money will bolster teacher projects, like classroom publishing efforts, with proceeds reaching educators on Sept. 10.
   

3. This week's Springfield historical headlines: 1926 & 1976, Aug. 23-29 (ozarksfirst.com) — Springfield's past comes alive this week with a look back at headlines from late August in 1926 and 1976, curated by local history groups. From traffic headaches on the square and new highways to pothole complaints and big movie releases, the snapshot shows how much the city has changed—and how some concerns feel surprisingly familiar.
   

4. How Sam Boster helped Springfield Catholic speed past Lighthouse Christian (sgfcitizen.org) — Springfield Catholic's football season opened with a packed house at Swisshelm Field and a standout performance from senior running back Sam Boster. His explosive kick return, long touchdown runs, and strong defensive play powered the Irish to a 42-21 win over Lighthouse Christian and set expectations high for the rest of the season.
   

5. Bill Fischer (blogspot.com) — Family and friends are remembering Van William "Bill" Fischer, an Air Force veteran and longtime mason whose work helped shape landmarks like Battlefield Mall and the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine Temple in Springfield. Services are planned in Pierce City, with burial and military honors scheduled at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield on September 1.
