1. Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health now Centerstone (threeriverspublishing.com) — Steelville residents who use Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health on 3rd Street will now see the Centerstone name on the building, but the same local staff and services remain. Leaders say the merger lets the Steelville office expand space, hire more counselors, and serve more clients with added training and resources for mental health and substance use care.
   

2. Power of Hope receives $40,000 grant from Peoples Bank (threeriverspublishing.com) — A therapeutic riding center just outside Steelville, Power of Hope, has received a $40,000 grant backed by Peoples Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. The funding will help care for their horses, keep program costs lower for local families, and support equine therapy for children, adults, and veterans dealing with physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges.
   

3. Astryd Rose Smith (threeriverspublishing.com) — Family and friends in Cherryville, Steelville, and beyond are mourning the passing of one-year-old Astryd Rose Smith. Loved as a joyful "little princess" by her mom and grandparents, she is survived by relatives in Steelville, Sullivan, Union, and Cherryville. A memorial visitation and service are planned Friday, August 14, in Cuba, Missouri.
   

4. Wyoming corner-crossing pioneer Brad Cape dies at 55 (wyofile.com) — Steelville is mourning Bradly Cape, a hometown fence builder and hunter whose legal fight over "corner crossing" opened millions of acres of Western public land to access. Cape, a Steelville High School graduate, died of a heart attack at 55, with services set for Aug. 13 in Steelville as friends remember his family life, faith, and love of the outdoors.
