Celebrate the GRAND OPENING of Uhuru Bakery &amp; Café, a project of the Black Power Blueprint, on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 12 - 5pm at 3719 W. Florissant Ave., St. Louis. This free community event marks a major victory for food sovereignty, bringing healthy food access, jobs, and economic self-reliance back to North St. Louis.
Taking place during Marcus Garvey’s 139th birthday weekend, the event honors his legacy of Black economic institution-building with the raising of the red, black, and green African flag, a full marching band and a Build-a-Black-Doll booth.
Everyone is welcome to check out the stage with voices from the community, live African music, drumming, and spoken word. Attendees can enjoy Uhuru's famous pies, housecrafted jerk chicken, and air-roasted coffee for sale, as well as complimentary sampling stations.
Uhuru Bakery &amp; Cafe is part of the larger Black Power Blueprint suite of programs, by and for the Northside community, including the Uhuru House community center, the Vanguards Basketball Court, the One Africa! One Nation! Farmer's Market and the Shamba la Uhuru Freedom Farm.

Mindy Smith is a Long Island-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter whose unmistakable voice and emotionally direct songwriting have made her one of Americana music’s most beloved artists. Ghaidaa Masrabi&nbsp;is a talented Syrian chef and entrepreneur who has become a cornerstone of the St. Louis culinary community. As a lead chef for the&nbsp;Fork in the Road Foundation, she is dedicated to sharing the warmth of Syrian hospitality while building a sustainable future for her family.
Originally from Damascus, Ghaidaa arrived in St. Louis in 2016. She is best known for “Ghaidaa’s Table,” where she introduces the community to the traditional Syrian breakfast—a multi-course ritual designed for conversation and connection. Specializing in the bold flavors of the Levant, her menus feature handmade falafel, savory manakeesh, and authentic spreads that turn strangers into friends.
Through her work with Fork in the Road, Ghaidaa’s journey from refugee to established business owner serves as a powerful inspiration for other women in the program.
