1. Gephardt Institute seeks nominees for Virgil Ethic of Service Award (washu.edu) — Washington University's Gephardt Institute is asking for nominations for the Gerry & Bob Virgil Ethic of Service Award, which honors students, staff, faculty and alumni who go above and beyond in serving the St. Louis region. With an Oct. 30 nomination deadline and honorees to be celebrated in the spring, this is a chance to spotlight neighbors quietly making a big difference locally.
   

2. Police investigating after dozens of North City fire hydrants damaged, leaving them inoperable (kmov.com) — Dozens of fire hydrants in Old North St. Louis, Hyde Park and near the North Riverfront have been deliberately damaged, leaving them unusable for firefighters and raising serious safety concerns for nearby homes and businesses. Police and the St. Louis Fire Department are investigating and urging residents to call 911 if they see anyone tampering with hydrants, or 314-444-2500 with tips for District 4 detectives.
   

3. KAI begins major repairs to protect historic Annie Malone Children and Family Services building (stlamerican.com) — St. Louis' historic Annie Malone Children and Family Services building is finally getting critical stabilization work, backed by a $1 million North Corridor Community Enhancement Grant and led by local firm KAI. Crews are replacing the roof, reinforcing the structure, fixing masonry, and repairing freeze damage to protect this nearly century‑old hub for children and families so it can keep serving north St. Louis for generations.
   

4. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen declared 'Blessed' at beatification Mass in St. Louis (catholicsun.org) — A massive Catholic celebration just filled The Dome at America's Center, where Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was officially declared "Blessed" during a Sept. 24 Mass hosted by the Archdiocese of St. Louis. With about 50,000 pilgrims, clergy from around the world, and local Catholics in attendance, the ceremony highlighted Sheen's global influence while putting St. Louis at the center of a historic moment for the Church.
   

5. Laynie Luck Wins the St. Louis Anarchy Gateway Heritage Championship (pwponderings.com) — St. Louis wrestling fans just saw history as Laynie Luck became the first woman to capture the St. Louis Anarchy Gateway Heritage Championship at the promotion's "Mega Ticket" event. She overcame a stacked deck and a cheating opponent, forcing Mat Fitchett to tap out and adding this prestigious local title to an already impressive championship résumé.
