Single Mom of Three Gifted Refurbished Minivan

Penny Finnie, a single mom of three children, was given a refurbished Toyota Sienna on October 11 at the Midas Shop located at 10542 Watson Rd. The minivan was presented to her during a Midas Project Spark car donation event.

Utilizing public transportation has been a challenge for Penny and her family. Two of her three children have special needs, making it difficult for them to stick to a bus schedule. With many doctors appointments, the family has been fortunate enough to use medical transportation, but the family is need of their own vehicle and the flexibility that it provides.

Penny is a hard worker and was able to move her children into a larger apartment and recently attended night school to obtain her high school diploma. Access to reliable transportation will be another step for Penny’s family at being self-sufficient.

When Midas Franchise Owner, Darren McMahan, heard Penny’s story, he and his team jumped in to help, obtaining a car from 800-Charity Cars. They then joined forces with NAPA Auto Parts to secure additional parts needed to optimize the vehicle and then leveraged their expertise in auto repair services to refurbish and fix the car.

Midas launched Project Spark in 2018 to help families and communities across North America get back on the road. Through this program, Midas franchise owners and their teams donate their time and efforts to refurbish vehicles to benefit recipients in need of reliable transportation.
