• American Red Cross declares emergency blood shortage (kmzu.com) — Unionville residents have a chance to help ease an emergency blood shortage at a Red Cross drive on July 23 from 1–5:30 p.m. at the Putnam County Fairgrounds 4-H Building. With blood supplies down about 25 percent, especially for O positive and B negative, organizers urge donors to book appointments soon using the Red Cross app, website, or phone.
   

• Obituary: Jack West (northscottpress.com) — Unionville residents are mourning the passing of Jack Moeller West, 77, who died July 2 at Putnam County Care Center after retiring to Lake Thunderhead and Unionville. A longtime machinist and Army Reserve veteran, he was known for his love of hunting, fishing, and sports. A Celebration of Life luncheon is planned Sept. 19 at the Walcott Legion Hall.
