Bridges Back to School Fair returns Aug. 15 (howellcountynews.com) — Families with students in West Plains R-VII Schools can attend the free Bridges Back to School Fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. in the West Plains High School parking lot. You’ll find school supplies, community resources, and onsite Howell County Health Department services to help kids get ready for the new year. For details, contact the district or visit its website.
   

2. Community blood drive set for Aug. 21 at Parkway Center - West Plains Daily Quill (westplainsdailyquill.net) — West Plains residents are invited to donate blood at Ozarks Healthcare’s community blood drive on Aug. 21 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Parkway Center’s Willard Hunter Classroom on Porter Wagoner Boulevard. Donors will help supply local hospitals, receive a beach towel while supplies last, and be entered for a chance at a $10,000 vacation, with appointments encouraged but walk-ins welcome.
   

3. West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff Issues Statement Following the Election (ozarkradionews.com) — West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff is thanking voters after the city’s sales tax proposition failed in Tuesday’s primary, emphasizing respect for the decision and strong turnout. He says city services will continue as normal while officials keep working with residents on a shared vision for the community’s future.
   

4. Land of the Big Red Tomato (howellcountynews.com) — Tomatoes once played a major role in Howell County’s economy, with West Plains leaders forming a Commercial Club in 1917 to promote tomato cultivation and build a cannery. The story traces how railroads, small-town canneries, and local entrepreneurs turned tomatoes into cash for area farmers before the industry faded after World War II.
   

5. Motorcyclist killed in crash - West Plains Daily Quill (westplainsdailyquill.net) — A 41-year-old West Plains man died after his motorcycle crossed the center line and hit a pickup on U.S. 160, three miles east of town, on July 28. He was taken to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains, where he was pronounced dead; the other driver from Mountain View was uninjured, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
