Family Promise opens new Helena shelter, expands support services across region (ktvh.com) — A new 16-room Family Promise shelter on North Cooke Street is about to start housing Helena-area families experiencing homelessness, while also helping cover space lost after flood damage at Helena's Friendship Center. Leaders say the facility will offer trauma-informed support, case management, and regional diversion programs, aiming to keep more local families safely housed despite rising housing costs.
   

2. Montana Historical Society launches Headwaters Book Prize for Montana history writing (dailyinterlake.com) — Writers and publishers in Helena and beyond can now submit 2026 nonfiction books on Montana history for the new Montana Headwaters Book Prize, run by the Montana Historical Society in Helena. Winners will receive cash awards, C. M. Russell bookends, and trips to the 2027 Montana History Conference at the Great Northern Hotel, with submissions due January 31, 2027.
   

3. Planting seeds of opportunity at West Mont's Annual Harvest Day (ktvh.com) — West Mont's free Harvest Day in Helena kicks off Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting residents to pick pumpkins, meet farm animals, and support adults with disabilities. About 40 clients help grow the crops and care for animals, turning a tough farming year and greenhouse loss into a chance to showcase their skills and connect with the community.
   

4. Historic 'Montana' statue to be replaced as part of Capitol restoration (ktvh.com) — Helena residents should know the iconic "Montana" statue atop the Capitol dome will be fully replaced rather than refurbished, as part of a $28 million restoration project. The original 1901 figure will move into the Montana Historical Society's permanent collection, while a new stainless-steel–supported copper replica is crafted over about a year to crown the dome for the next century.
   

5. Montana auditor praises guilty plea in insurance fraud case tied to Connecticut man (nbcmontana.com) — From Helena's State Auditor is highlighting a guilty plea in a federal insurance fraud case linked to a scheme that once hit Montana's Governors' Cup golf tournament. The case, involving unpaid hole‑in‑one coverage, could bring prison time and restitution, and state officials are urging any other Montana victims to contact the Auditor's office.
