Hastings College announces Together Tuesday giving day for Oct. 6 (hastings.edu) ā€” Hastings residents are invited to support Hastings Collegeā€™s Together Tuesday giving day on Oct. 6, with in-person donations accepted at the Barrett Alumni Center from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Donors can back more than 50 campus programs and help unlock over $250,000 in challenge gifts, with featured funds honoring influential faculty and bolstering scholarships, academics, student life, and facilities.

Broncos Fall to Third-Ranked Northwestern (ksnblocal4.com) ā€” Hastings volleyball fans saw the Broncos battle but ultimately fall in three sets to nationally third-ranked Northwestern at home Friday night. Despite strong performances from Mikah Oā€™Neill, Ilse Benne, and Makenna Sutter, Northwestern controlled key runs in each set. Hastings, now 12-4 overall, quickly turns around to host Waldorf on Sunday at 3 p.m.

UNL receives $5 million grant expand college access programs in state including G.I., Hastings, Lexington (centralnebraskatoday.com) ā€” Hastings students are set to benefit from a new $5 million federal TRIO grant that will expand the University of Nebraskaā€“Lincolnā€™s Talent Search program into their local schools. Over the next five years, the program will nearly double the number of Nebraska middle and high schoolers receiving college and career readiness support, with services like academic help, financial aid guidance, and college planning offered in Hastings and other communities.

St. Cecilia teacher Kelan Schumacher to receive St. John Cantius Award (americancatholictribune.com) ā€” A St. Cecilia Middle and High School math teacher in Hastings, Kelan Schumacher, has been named the Diocese of Lincolnā€™s 2026 Secondary Educator of the Year and will receive the St. John Cantius Award on Oct. 11. Schumacher, who also coaches volleyball, credits his family and faith for shaping his vocation and says the honor motivates him to keep inspiring local students.

Heartland United Way offering Holiday assistance programs (nbcneb.com) ā€” From Hastings, Heartland United Way is opening holiday assistance applications now through Nov. 15 for families in Hall, Hamilton, Howard, and Merrick counties. Programs include toy distributions, an Adopt-A-Family option for those facing major hardships, and Christmas Cheer grocery vouchers for Hall County holiday meals. Residents can also donate, adopt a family, or volunteer through the organizationā€™s website.
