Food Bank Busy Keeping Hungry Children Fed During Summer Months (klin.com) — Families in Lincoln can access free breakfasts and lunches for kids ages 1–18 at more than two dozen Summer Food Service Program sites across the city. The Food Bank of Lincoln is also running school-based food markets and a backpack home-delivery program, aiming to serve over 70,000 meals by summer’s end to help cover the gap when school cafeterias are closed.

Potential residential development coming to former Gold's Building site in downtown Lincoln (1011now.com) — A new 11-story, 338-unit apartment building is moving closer to reality at 11th and N streets, replacing part of the former Gold’s Building site in downtown Lincoln. Developers are refining designs after Urban Design Committee feedback, with a Tax Increment Financing package and final plans headed to the Lincoln City Council for a public hearing and vote.

UNL selects 21 students for new elite veterinary program cohort (nebraska.tv) — Twenty-one University of Nebraska–Lincoln students have been chosen for a competitive veterinary program that offers major tuition support in exchange for committing to work in Nebraska after graduation. Based in Lincoln, the Elite 11 cohort gives undergraduates early, hands-on experience with production animals while helping address the state’s shortage of rural veterinarians.

4. Man arrested after meth delivery intercepted by police in Lincoln (1011now.com) — Lincoln police and federal postal inspectors intercepted a large package of suspected methamphetamine headed to a local home, leading to the arrest of a 47-year-old Lincoln resident and serious drug charges. Investigators say the controlled delivery and search also uncovered children in the residence, additional substances and paraphernalia, and that the suspect’s next court appearance is set for July 1.

As Oklahoma weighs SQ 832, Nebraska offers clues on what raising minimum wage could mean (koco.com) — Nebraska’s recent minimum wage hike offers a real-world example for Lincoln workers and employers, with a local economist noting that most entry-level jobs in Lincoln already paid above the new floor. The bigger impacts, he says, have fallen on smaller towns, while Oklahoma voters now weigh a similar proposal and its trade-offs between government-set and market-driven wages.
