Lincoln man accused in abduction of woman and infant makes first court appearance (wowt.com) — Lincoln police say a 26-year-old man is accused of abducting a woman and infant in east Lincoln, leading to a chase and crash before his arrest and court appearance. The woman, child, and another driver were treated at local hospitals, and investigators are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Lincoln Police or Crime Stoppers.

2. ā€˜Everybody has a voice in the sewer': Lincoln's wastewater is a public health gem; how is the health department using it? (1011now.com) — Lincoln’s wastewater is quietly giving the local health department an early warning system on everything from measles and COVID-19 to illicit drug trends. Samples from the Theresa Street facility are tested daily and shared with local stakeholders to guide overdose prevention and public health planning, as Lincoln participates in a national Biobot Analytics surveillance project.

Food Bank of Lincoln opens emergency pantry for students and families during the school year (1011now.com) — Families in Lincoln can now visit the LPS Emergency Pantry at Bryan Community School three afternoons a week for free shelf-stable groceries throughout the school year. Run by the Food Bank of Lincoln with Lincoln Public Schools, the pantry serves any family with school-aged kids, including private and homeschooled students, offering up to 35 pounds of food per visit.

Local man helping curb food insecurity, while also supporting farmers through Nebraska grant (klkntv.com) — A Nebraska grant is helping Nolan Lemna buy food from conservation-minded farmers and donate it to Catholic Social Services in Lincoln and Community Action in Kearney. Thousands of pounds of beef, flour, eggs, and produce are already reaching families in need, while giving local farmers a fair, reliable outlet and encouraging residents to keep supporting sustainable agriculture.

5. H.S. Football Preview: Lincoln Pius X (1011now.com) — Lincoln Pius X football is kicking off a new era under head coach Michael Grindey, only the program’s fourth leader in 71 years. With 14 seniors and many returning starters, the Thunderbolts open August 28 at Scottsbluff before a home debut at Aldrich Field that’s expected to draw a loud local crowd.
