2. Defendant sentenced to jail for felony shoplifting (justmelaniew.com) — In York, a 37-year-old man with ties to Lincoln and Crete has been sentenced to 15 months in jail for felony shoplifting after stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from Wal-Mart. He’ll also serve a year of post-release supervision and must pay more than $4,700 in restitution, following a plea deal that consolidated multiple original charges.

3. York volleyball rolls Beatrice (yorknewstimes.com) — York High’s volleyball team swept Beatrice 3-0 at the Duke Dome, led by standout performances from several Dukes, including double-digit kills from both a freshman and junior hitter. Strong blocking, serving, and setting helped York dominate all three sets and continue building momentum for the rest of the season.

NDOT: Project Access York moves forward following bid opening (kgfw.com) — Bids are now opened for Project Access York, moving a major trail and pedestrian-safety initiative one step closer to reality for York residents. Backed by $15.63 million in federal RAISE funding, the project will add about nine miles of new trails and a pedestrian overpass across US-81, with construction expected to begin in 2027.

5. A Paws For Pets — What were their chances? (justmelaniew.com) — Two longtime residents of York Adopt A Pet, bonded heeler sisters Dee and Asia, finally found a forever home together after spending 993 nights between the shelter and foster care. Their journey included medical care, a failed out-of-state application, and growing stress in the kennel before a Stromsburg resident stepped up, giving them space, companionship, and the second chance staff had hoped for.
