Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas Opens Applications for 2027-28 School Year (nevadabusiness.com) — Families across the Las Vegas Valley can now apply for Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas for the 2027–28 school year, with lotteries set this November and February. The Nellis campus is also expanding by about 200 seats, opening more spots for military-connected and Southern Nevada students seeking a STEM-focused education.

Clark County School District trustees question administrators over late school buses (8newsnow.com) — Clark County School District leaders in Las Vegas are under pressure from trustees and parents after widespread school bus delays during the first week of classes, which began August 10. Officials blame new routing software, road construction, new start times, and a shortage of 95 bus drivers, but say service has improved while they train dozens of new drivers and continue hiring.
3. Las Vegas mayor points to mental health needs as city expands efforts for homelessness (news3lv.com) — Las Vegas leaders say nearly 140 people experiencing homelessness have moved into treatment or other assistance this year, as the city expands programs like Community Court and a new Recuperative Care Center. Mayor Shelley Berkley is also publicly pushing for a major mental health facility in Las Vegas, arguing that expanded treatment is essential to reducing chronic homelessness on city streets.
4. New Hollywood Boulevard police substation opens in east Las Vegas to serve growing community (ktnv.com) — A new Hollywood Boulevard police substation has opened in East Las Vegas, bringing a stronger law enforcement presence to a part of town that's been growing and grappling with traffic and safety concerns. Longtime residents and local leaders hope the added officers will deter crime, support neighborhood businesses, and honor a recently fallen officer through continued community-focused service.
5. Nevada gas prices hit record highs for Labor Day weekend (fox5vegas.com) — Las Vegas drivers are paying about $4.90 a gallon for gas this Labor Day weekend, just under Nevada's statewide average of $4.91 and well above the national price. Higher crude oil costs are keeping prices elevated, while Nevada remains one of the most expensive states for fuel, with only a few West Coast states higher.
