Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:
- While marijuana has been legalized in the state of Nevada, people are unable to utilize it in public. Officials are hoping new cannabis lounges will help the tourist population buying marijuana products on the strip have the ability to legally consume the products while away from their homes. A public meeting on cannabis consumption lounges in Clark County will be held this upcoming Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 2 p.m. at the Clark County Government Center. (Fox 5 Vegas)
- Looking for a job this spring? Head to the Spring Job Fair being held today at the Las Vegas Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The job fair will include 105 employers with 13,000 jobs that pay $18 per hour or more. Organizers of the event include Nevada JobConnect, the One-Stop Career Center, and Clark County. "We are convinced that thousands of people will get jobs Friday. More than that. Maybe as many as 4,000 people will end up employed after this job fair," said Clark County Commission chairman Jim Gibson. (KSNV)
- Gov. Steve Sisolak has formally launched a plan to boost affordable housing in Nevada as home prices in Las Vegas accelerate faster than in other cities in the country. The initiative, Home Means Nevada, is a $500 million program that was first unveiled in February. Nevada lawmakers recently approved the allocation of $250 million in federal funds for the program. "Getting just one more person, just one more person into a home, or keeping one more family in their home, is what this is all about," Sisolak said Thursday. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
