Colorful Pride Parade kicks off in Downtown Las Vegas (8newsnow.com) — Downtown Las Vegas is hosting the free Las Vegas PRIDE Parade and Block Party tonight from 6 to 11 p.m., centered at 4th Street and Bridger Avenue. You can also plan ahead for the Oct. 17 Las Vegas PRIDE Festival at Desert Breeze Event Center, a family-friendly celebration running noon to 10 p.m. with $10 tickets and a full slate of activities.
   

2. Las Vegas professor critically injured in suspected hit-and-run, family pleads for help finding driver (ktnv.com) — A Las Vegas astronomy professor from the College of Southern Nevada is in critical condition after a suspected hit-and-run on Tropicana Avenue during his regular morning run, and his family is pleading for witnesses or video to help identify the driver. He underwent surgery at UMC for a brain bleed and faces a six-week recovery, while Nevada State Police expect to release an investigative update Monday.
   

3. Two Las Vegas babies in national 'Baby of the Year' contest (fox5vegas.com) — Two Las Vegas babies, Ava and Cassius, are competing in a national "Baby of the Year" contest that could bring a $25,000 prize and a magazine feature. Their families hope the winnings will help with housing, education, and charitable giving, and are asking supporters to vote online before the Nov. 5 deadline.
   

4. 2 Nevada prison guards charged after handcuffed inmate shot, docs say (fox5vegas.com) — Two Nevada Department of Corrections officers are facing multiple felony charges in Las Vegas Justice Court after a handcuffed inmate was allegedly shot with a less-lethal weapon at High Desert State Prison. Investigators say surveillance video contradicts officers' reports and indicates the inmate was compliant, prompting additional scrutiny of possible falsified records and an internal investigation.
