🌱 Casino Manager Killed Chasing Thief + Jonas Brothers Limited Run
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.
Good morning, Las Vegas! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to celebrate Memorial Day, so you won't see a newsletter in your inbox on Monday morning. We will be back on Tuesday with your next update, but in the meantime, here's what's happening around town this holiday weekend.
First, today's weather:
Breezy in the afternoon. High: 95 Low: 71.
Here are the top 3 stories in Las Vegas today:
- A manager at Dotty's Casino has died after attempting to stop a suspect who stole approximately $30,000 from a jackpot winner. Witnesses say the manager, Alicia Gibellina, was killed after being run over by a car in the parking lot while pursuing the suspect, Samuel Schmid. Both Schmid and an accomplice, James Holmes, have been arrested and face conspiracy, robbery, and murder charges. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- Las Vegas scientists have detected high levels of COVID-19 in recent samples of wastewater. Dr. Edwin Oh, an associate professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, says the uptick in local COVID cases can likely be attributed to the new BA2.12.1 variant of the virus. While some areas across the city reported more than 17,000 cases on Monday, Oh says the wastewater analysis indicates that actual numbers are likely much higher. (KTNV 13 Action News Las Vegas)
- The Jonas Brothers will kick off a series of limited-engagement shows in Las Vegas next week. The pop group will perform at Dolby Live at Park MGM on Jun. 3-4 and 9-11, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and start at $45. (Lasvegasmagazine)
