🌱 Charged For Threats To Election Worker + Emergency Substitutes

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.

(Patch Media)

Happy Saturday, Las Vegas! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening locally today.

First, today's weather:

Intervals of clouds and sun. High: 61 Low: 41.

Here are the top 3 stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. A man is now facing federal charges after threatening an election worker. 50-year-old George Juncaj was arrested this past Wednesday after making multiple threats to an employee over the phone. According to reports, Juncaj has been charged with four counts of making threatening phone calls. He will now have to serve time for each account. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  2. A state panel is reviewing the possibility of allowing people with only high school diplomas to be hired as emergency substitutes for schools in Nevada's two most populous counties. There is a hearing planned for Feb. 24 by the Commission on Professional Standards in Education to address the staffing shortages. Emergency substitutes were allowed back in late November of 2021; however, the temporary regulation has expired. (Las Vegas Sun)
  3. Beneath the streets of Las Vegas, there is a city that many people have chosen to ignore. A large population of homeless people reside in the tunnels underneath The Strip. Living down there is the last resort for most of them. However, Shine A Light is an organization committed to providing those people with a way out. (KNPR)
