Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- On the first day of the two-week filing period, Gov. Steve Sisolak filed for re-election. The governor, who is not expected to face a legitimate primary challenge in this election, filed at the secretary of state's Southern Nevada office inside North Las Vegas City Hall shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday. According to Sisolak, if he's re-elected, he plans to focus heavily on education, saying that even though they have added funding to the state's education budget during his tenure as governor, "more needs to be done." (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
- A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer who had been accused of a casino robbery is now facing federal charges in two other heists. Court documents indicate Caleb Rogers had previously been arrested on Feb. 27 in connection with a robbery attempt at the Rio. Federal charges have since been filed indicating that Rogers is also accused of an early morning robbery on Nov. 12, 2021, at the Red Rock Resort and Casino, as well as a Jan. 6 robbery at Aliante Casino. His initial appearance on the federal charges is scheduled for March 10. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- A Colorado woman hit the jackpot on the Strip over the weekend. Thanks to a straight flush, Denise Brewer, of Arvada, hit a $145,610 jackpot while playing Three Card Poker at Bally's. The woman has said she will use her winnings to pay off her student loans. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
