Now, today's weather:

Periods of clouds and sun. High: 99 Low: 83.

Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. The Las Vegas high-rise real estate market has reportedly slowed. The cooling effect is due to rising mortgage rates, summer heat, and buyers traveling. Only 87 closings occurred in June — significantly lower than the 129 closings in June of 2021. Despite the cooling effect in June, 2022 has had more high-rise closings compared to last year. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  2. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has opened a homicide investigation after a coroner determined that a woman was murdered. The incident occurred on Aug. 4 in the Nellis Boulevard and Harmon Avenue area. A woman was located near a raised planter with no obvious signs of foul play at the time. The department has not released the woman's cause of death. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
  3. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue responded to a stuck arborist on Friday morning. According to the department, crews rescued the arborist that was stuck 35 feet in the air after slipping from his safety harness. A total of 13 units responded to the incident. The arborist was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. (News3LV)
