Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:
- January visitation in Las Vegas plummeted due to weak convention traffic. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, January brought the lowest number of visitors and hotel occupancy rate since March due to convention traffic being down 55.3 percent from pre-pandemic levels. In addition, the average daily room rate was the lowest since February 2021. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
- A Las Vegas woman struck and killed a homeless person in the south valley on Thursday morning. According to an arrest report, 27-year-old Pearl Angob told police she fell asleep behind the wheel when her car hit the victim on Eastern Avenue near St. Rose Parkway, however, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in death. Angob's first court appearance took place on Friday morning. (News3LV)
- Crews were called to a two-alarm fire on Thursday morning that broke out at a Las Vegas convenience store and strip mall. The fire broke out at the Apollo Market on the corner of Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive at around 5:09 a.m. According to Tim Szymanski with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, The Apollo Market is considered a total loss, and Felipitos, an adjoining restaurant, suffered moderate smoke and water damage. - Las Vegas police have released a video of a man they say is accused of attempting to lure a child. As authorities are working to identify him, police ask people to listen to his voice and pay attention to the sticker on the vehicle's windshield. (Twitter)
