Las Vegas Killer Tells Judge: I'm Ready To Die

Scott Dozier, convicted in 2007 of killing someone at the now-closed La Concha Motel, says he is done with appeals and wants to die.

Scott Dozier is ready to die. Dozier told Clark County District Judge Jennifer Togliatti that he is done with his appeals and wants his death sentence carried out.

Dozier, who was convicted ten years ago of killing Jeremiah Miller at the La Concha Motel, has been on death row since 2007. He would be the first prisoner to be executed in the state since 2006.

At a hearing on Wednesday, Dozier appeared by videoconference from Ely State Prison and told the judge that he is ready and doesn't want to appear in any more hearings.

Dozier, who was also convicted of murder in Phoenix, has said that he wants the penalty carried out even if it means that he feels pain as he dies.

His lawyers, who have not asked the judge to stay the execution, have raised issues with the three-drug combination that will be used. It's a combination that has never been used in any other state.

While other states use pentobarbital, which stops the heart, Nevada does not. The state plans on using diazepam, a sedative, along with fentanyl, a synthetic opioid, and cisatracurium. The combination is supposed to slow his breathing until he suffocates.

Judge Togliatti will hold another hearing on Thursday where state officials will discuss the drug cocktail.

Dozier is scheduled to be executed on Tuesday.
