🌱 Man Arrested In ATM Theft + Las Vegas Man Sets World Record

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.

Hello again, Las Vegas! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Las Vegas Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Las Vegas Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Las Vegas long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

Plenty of sunshine. High: 69 Low: 45.

Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:

  1. A Las Vegas man has set the world record with his gaming chip and tokens collection, breaking his previous record. Gregg Fisher previously set the record at 818 chips and tokens in 2020, but since broke that record with his personal collection growing to 2,222. Each chip in Fisher's collection — which is on display at Spinettis Gaming Supplies in downtown Las Vegas — is from a different casino from the likes of southern Nevada to even Barcelona, Spain. 2. Are you looking for some fun in the Las Vegas area? Here are 13 things to do in Las Vegas this week, such as celebrating at the Black History Month Festival this Saturday or catching the UNLV Lady Rebels vs. San Jose State game at Cox Pavilion arena. (KTNV Las Vegas)
  3. A man was arrested by Las Vegas police in connection with multiple ATM and vending machine thefts. 42-year-old Scott West was taken into custody for allegedly stealing ATM and vending machines, after police matched West's phone to multiple burglary locations, and matched descriptions from surveillance footage. In an interview with police, West stated he hadn't received unemployment after being laid off from work and was using the stolen funds to cover his bills. (FOX5 Las Vegas)

From my notebook:

  • The U.S National Weather Service suggests enjoying this weekend's weather while you can! Warm temperatures, lots of sun, and light winds will give way to a drastic weather change next week in Las Vegas with much colder temperatures, breezy winds, and chances for showers. (Facebook)
  • Learn about the Vial of Life Program that Las Vegas Fire & Rescue is providing to residents of Las Vegas to make it easier for emergency responders to gather important information about a person during an emergency when the patient is unable to communicate. (Facebook)
  • Is your watering clock set to water one day a week? If not, set it today! Winter watering restrictions limit watering to one assigned day per week. (Facebook)
