Here are the top three stories in Las Vegas today:

  1. A portion of U.S. 95 near downtown Las Vegas is set for daylong closure that may affect your drive time. This Sunday, a shutdown is planned for U.S. 95 southbound between MLK and Las Vegas boulevards from Sunday at 2 a.m. to Monday at 5 a.m. Crews need continuous closure to begin paving work tied to the $40 million U.S. 95 viaduct rehabilitation project. "This weekend's work involves removing old crumb-rubber asphalt and preliminary striping for the freeway's new, four-lane configuration," Justin Hopkins, NDOT spokesman said in a statement. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
  2. There has been an update on the 4-week-old kitten who was rescued from the dumpster fire on May 4. While the kitten, Savannah, continues to heal, her injuries are more extensive than the Animal Foundation thought. She has severe burns and hair loss, however, she is eating well and continuing to grow. The Animal Foundation stated they are giving her around-the-clock care. (News3LV)
  3. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police are prioritizing mental health by expanding the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU). The expansion includes the addition of the Community Advocacy Resources and Engagement (CARE) team. The CARE team has been formed to focus on long-term solutions to "behavioral, societal, and mental concerns" from citizens by responding to active scenes and providing well-being follow-ups. The LVMPD says the city is set to hire social workers and teams should be "active soon" within Bolden and Downtown Area Commands. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
