🌱 Protecting Kids From Sun + The Boring Company's Vegas Loop + Fire
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Las Vegas.
Hello and happy Monday. I'm back in your inbox this morning with all the most important things happening locally. Enjoy...
First, today's weather:
Plenty of sunshine. High: 93 Low: 75.
Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:
- Research shows that protecting kids' skin from the Las Vegas sun can reduce the risk of cancer when they're older. According to dermatologist Dr. H.L. Greenberg, medical research shows just a single blistering childhood sunburn can increase the risk of skin cancer later in life. Living in this sunny part of the region, Greenberg recommends monitoring the time you're exposed to the sun and regular use of mineral sunscreen. (News3LV)
- The Boring Company's Vegas Loop, an express transportation service underground via Tesla vehicles, will be expanding into downtown Las Vegas. According to a press release from the city of Las Vegas, the company's application for the project was approved by the Las Vegas City Council and is being privately funded, with no fee reductions. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2023, tentatively. (Press Release Desk)
- On Saturday morning, firefighters returned to a Northwest Las Vegas house after it caught on fire for the second day in a row. Crews returned to battle a fire between the first and second floors and in the attic of a home at 3332 Crystal Tower St near W. Cheyenne and the 215 at around 7:05 a.m. Previously, neighbors had complained about the tenants and trash piling up. No injuries were reported, but seven adults and four children were previously displaced during Friday's fire after igniting in the garage. (News3LV)
