Hello again, Reno! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Reno Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Reno Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Reno long term. Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. Samantha Stremmel, owner of Sierra Water Gardens in Reno, is helping residents add some greenery to their residences. She teaches how to tell the difference between pothos and philodendrons, and how to care for each plant. Pothos and philodendrons don't require a lot of light, water, or attention — perfect for lazy plant parents. Sierra Water Gardens also helps Reno residents pick out and care for a variety of other plants. (KOLO)
  2. On Tuesday afternoon, a man doing work on a tree died after being electrocuted. The incident occurred off Jasper Lane in Reno just after 2:00 p.m. The man was cutting some tree limbs when he made contact with a power line in the tree. According to the Reno Fire Department, the man died on the scene. Response crews were able to de-energize the line and remove the man from the tree. (KRNV)
  3. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is hosting a food drop-off event on Friday, Apr. 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to gather food for families throughout its 90,000 square mile service area. According to the Food Bank, there have been significant increases in the number of people needing emergency food assistance. Food donations will be taken from cars that attend the drop-off. For those who are not able to attend the food drive, text the word "FeedNV" with an amount to 50155 to donate online. (KOLO)

  • Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Sub Committee Meeting At Caucus Room (12:00 PM)
  • Setting Up Your Vendor Booth Artist Workshop! At Sierra Arts Riverside Gallery (5:30 PM)

From my notebook:

  • The US National Weather Service warns residents that multiple storms will impact the region this week. Right now, residents are encouraged to watch the progression of the storm for Friday evening into Saturday, which looks to be the strongest. (Facebook)
  • The National Automobile Museum in Reno announced that Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater from "Cars" will be at the museum starting Apr. 20. They will only be in the museum for a limited time, so make sure to see them! (Facebook)
  • Nevada Humane Society has a beautiful rescue pup ready for adoption. Sunflower is a sweet girl and loves to be loved; she would do best in a home with older children or in a home where she will be the only pet. (Facebook)
