Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. A Reno man was arrested for alleged elder abuse after a woman was reportedly found in a Washoe Valley home against her will. The woman reportedly emailed a friend saying an unknown man was keeping her in a home and not caring for her, which prompted deputies to visit the US Highway 395 house. Luis Cortez, 57, initially would not let authorities into the home, but when police entered, they found the victim in poor health and transported her to a local hospital. Cortez was arrested for kidnapping, neglect of an elder, and exploitation of an elder. (KRNV)
  2. UNR is leading a collaborative effort to address water issues before it becomes a problem for the residents of Reno. The project is known as Nevada Water, and it aims to create a network of water suppliers, users, policymakers, and academics in order to identify and address challenges concerning water in the community. 3. Troy Driver, the man accused of killing Naomi Irion after kidnapping her from the Reno area, allegedly disposed of his tires and destroyed the victim's cell phone as a cover-up. Driver appeared in court yesterday in connection with the incident, where prosecutors described his alleged behavior to cover up the crime. (Reno Patch)
