Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. As hibernation season ends, the Reno area can expect to see an increase in bear activity compared to previous years. According to Heather Rich, Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) game biologist, bear activity levels are highly influenced by drought. As the drought in Nevada continues, the hungry animals are likely to come down the mountains and into Reno, looking for food. NDOW has reportedly already begun receiving bear calls this year from the Zolezzi Lane area. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  2. The Reno Aces are starting the 2022 season with a few change-ups, including a new manager and even some new features being tested for the MLB. New manager Gil Velazquez, a former Triple-A player himself, has taken over the role previously held by Blake Lalli. Additionally, new game features — including a pitch timer, larger bases, and automated balls and strikes (ABS) — are slated to roll out over the course of the season. (This Is Reno)
  3. Five University of Nevada, Reno students headed to Missouri to compete in this year's Intercollegiate Mining Games. Karlee Bolle, Natalie Rubio, Katie Nicholes, Dane Ehlers, and Abraham Clayson represented UNR as the Mackay Muckers. The Muckers received fourth in single jack, third in track stand, and second in mucking. (Nevada Appeal)
