Here are the top 3 stories in Reno today:

  1. Last night, a meeting took place to discuss the Virginia Range horses and concerns from the community. After the Nevada Department of Transportation fenced Geiger Grade Southand, developers will now be putting up fences around Geiger Grade North, which leaves a gap that affects both the animals and people. The community's biggest concern seems to be the horse vehicle crashes that are becoming increasingly more common. There is a proposal to lower the speed limit by Steamboat Pkwy. and Rio Wrangler during hours when the horses are getting hit. (My News 4)
  2. On Sunday afternoon, three motor vehicle crashes, two of which involved motorcycles, happened on Northern Nevada highways within an hour of one another, and are currently under investigation. The first motorcycle crash took place around 3:15 p.m, and the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The next motorcycle crash took place at 3:56 p.m. with the rider being pronounced dead at the scene as well. At 4:03 p.m., an injury rollover crash took place involving two vehicles. One person was taken to an area hospital and later died from crash-related injuries. All three accidents are under ongoing investigation. (Reno Gazette Journal)
  3. On Sunday, three women were injured in a stabbing and shooting at Aguita's nightclub in Sparks, a few miles from Reno. A fight broke out between multiple nightclub goers resulting in two women being stabbed. The victims were transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. A woman was then shot an hour later at the same nightclub and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries as well. The incidents are still being investigated and witnesses are encouraged to give any information they may have to the Sparks Police Detectives. (KOLO)

Are you a Reno resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
