Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. Research by the University of Nevada, Reno indicates that wildfire occurrence and intensity will likely decrease in various locations over the next several decades. The downside is that wildfire occurrence and intensity will likely get worse before it gets better. The decrease will also not occur for another 50 years. The research examined various factors that contribute to fuel loading and fuel moisture levels. (Nevada Appeal)
  2. The Reno Police Department issued 41 citations during its pedestrian safety operation. The operation occurred on Friday and focused on areas that had the most pedestrian-related incidents. The department also towed a vehicle and arrested one person attempting to elude officers. (KOLO)
  3. The Washoe County Health District has announced that it will be changing its name. The district will be changed to Northern Nevada Public Health, Serving Reno, Sparks, and Washoe County. The name change was approved during a meeting on Friday with the county commission and the two city councils. The district chose the names after five focus groups were given candidate names. (KOLO)
