14 Corrections Officers Under Investigation For Use Of Force On Inmate

The attorney general's office is eyeing two use of force incidents against an inmate by the staff at the NH Department of Corrections.

CONCORD, NH — The Attorney General’s Office has asked Corrections Commissioner Helen Hanks to stop any internal investigation into two use of force incidents against an inmate by the staff at the Department of Corrections.

In a letter to Hanks, Senior Assistant Attorney General Geoffrey Ward said the use of force and subsequent documentation under investigation occurred April 21, 2021. The name of the inmate has been redacted.

“The following individuals are under investigation based upon their use of force in one or both of these incidences and for their documentation concerning these incidences,” Ward said in the letter. Ward said the inmate didn’t die.

He listed: Lt. Christopher Turcotte, Lt. Gary Lydick, Sgt Brian Magnell, Sgt. John Batakis, Sgt. Cody DeMoss, Sgt. Christopher Brownlie, Cpl. Zachery Feudner, Cpl. Elioenai Navarro Rodriguez, Cpl. Daniel Rivard, Cpl. Jay Christie and CO Nathan Moss.

Ward said in addition, the following individuals are under investigation based upon their documentation concerning one or both of these incidences: Capt. Daniel Boynton, Cpl. Edward Klim and CO John Aulis.

“To the extent that any internal investigation is still pending, we would request that it cease pending the outcome of our investigation, so as to preserve the integrity of our review,” Ward wrote.
