MA Woman Seriously Injured In NH Snowmobile Crash

The woman was seriously injured after being ejected from her snowmobile and striking a tree.

PITTSBURG, NH — A 63-year-old Massachusetts woman is seriously injured following a snowmobile crash in Pittsburg Saturday afternoon, New Hampshire Fish and Game said in a news release Monday.

The crash was reported in a driveway off Hillside Drive around 2:30 p.m., when Lori Bechtel of North Easton crashed her snowmobile while attempting to navigate an uphill turn on an unmaintained driveway, officials said.

Bechtel, who was with other riders and attempting to return to camp, went down over an embankment and collided with a tree, according to officials. She was then ejected from her snowmobile before striking another tree.

After her friends called 911 and help arrived, Bechtel was placed on a liter and transported a short distance down the unplowed road to an awaiting 45th Parallel EMS ambulance, officials said. From there, she was taken to the hospital.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing, but officials said they believe inexperience and inattention were the leading factors.
