82-Year-Old MA Hiker Seriously Injures Leg In Slip-And-Fall In NH Snow
Officials were called to the Partridge Woods Trail in Nelson, New Hampshire Monday morning after receiving a call of a woman seriously hurt.
NELSON, NH — New Hampshire Fish and Game are warning outdoor explorers after an 82-year-old woman from Cambridge, Massachusetts was seriously injured while hiking on the Partridge Woods Trail in Nelson, New Hampshire Monday morning.
Officials were called to the trail around 10:30 a.m. after receiving a call that the woman, Susan Turner, had slipped and fell in wet snow and suffered a serious upper-leg injury that left her unable to stand up.
The woman was properly dressed and prepared for the hike, and had been hiking with four others who called 911 and waited for help, officials noted.

Turner was treated on the trail by fire officials before being carried into the Keene Fire Department's utility task vehicle to a nearby road. From there, officials said she was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
"This incident is a good reminder to all people recreating in the outdoors to dress appropriately, hike with a partner or group, and carry the necessary equipment," New Hampshire Fish and Game wrote. "Always plan for the unexpected."

Partridge Woods is a 3.7-mile trail network that follows old woods roads through a property managed by the Nelson Conservation Commission, according to Trail Finder. It contains the highest peak in Nelson and the second-highest peak in Cheshire County.
