Bedford Police Warn Of Phone Scam Targeting Residents

Bedford Police said they received many reports on Thursday that callers requested the social security numbers of potential victims.

BEDFORD, NH — Bedford Police issued a public warning on Thursday after they said they have received many reports from residents who said they had received unsolicited calls requesting personal information. Bedford Police put out a "Scam Alert" causing residents not to give out personal information on the phone to someone they have not verified.

Thursday;s reports said the callers were looking for social security numbers and that some of the potential scammers used "Called ID Spoofing" where the call appears to come from a local number or business.

"Remember, never give your social security number to someone over the phone unless you know for sure who they are," Bedford Police said in a Facebook post. "Also, refrain from giving your date of birth, mother's maiden name, and credit card information. If you receive this type of call, do not provide any personal information and hang up."
