Chris Carpenter Hurts Toe on Amazon Trip

Reports say Cardinals ace may have to "take it easy" early in 2012.

St. Louis Cardinals ace pitcher Chris Carpenter may reside in Bedford with his family in the offseason, but he apparently uses the free time to travel the world as well.

According to a report from Yahoo.com, the hurt his toe on a recent fishing trip to the Amazon with Philadelphia Phillies star (and former Red Sox menace) Roy Halladay and expert fisherman Skeet Reese.

Though the report says the injury isn't expected to force Carpenter to miss 2012 playing time, it does say he may have to "take it easy" early.

It was apparently an eventful peacock bass-fishing adventure; Halladay and Reese helped out a local who'd freed himself from an anaconda after getting bitten on the butt. On his blog, Reese reported, "You could definitely see the bite mark on [the guy's] ass." The two helped him get back to his village.

Carpenter wasn't in the boat with them at the time, but he did shoot a caiman on the trip. Later, he hurt his toe trying to change boats. Reese said, "It was all swollen and black and blue the next morning."
