Manchester Father Gets 45 Years To Life For Beating, Burning Son To Death: Follow-Up

Murtadah Mohammad was sentenced in Hillsborough Superior Court North on Tuesday after killing his son, Jaevion Riley, 7, in January 2023.

MANCHESTER, NH — A man from Manchester was sentenced to 45 years to life for the murder of his 7-year-old son nearly two-and-a-half years ago.

Murtadah Mohammad, 27, pleaded guilty last month to reckless second-degree murder as well as falsifying physical evidence for the death of his son, Jaevion Riley. He admitted to killing his son by subjecting him to abusive violence and not obtaining medical assistance for the boy’s injuries. The evidence charge was for lying to police, calling the burns a kitchen accident. Mohammad was sentenced on Tuesday.

“This was a heartbreaking case, and today’s sentence reflects the severity of the defendant’s actions,” Attorney General John Formella said. “We are deeply grateful to the trial team, investigators, and Manchester Police for their hard work and dedication in securing justice for Jaevion Riley. While no sentence can undo this tragedy, we hope it offers some measure of accountability and closure.”
