Anyone who thinks the "tea party" had anything to do with the fake Obama "shutdown" is sadly misinformed, likely a result of too much exposure to the television narrative.
The "tea party" if you will recall, was started in 2007 in response to Bush policies and other government policies that do not seem to change regardless of which party is in power. The "tea party" itself is NOT a political party, therefore does not have candidates or representatives in DC, and has NO power to shut anything down. It also collects NO money from anyone and has never been funded as is often claimed. It also has no roots in "religious fundamentalism" as some believe. Those claiming to represent "tea party values" in DC are simply trying to persuade the grassroots they are fighting for constitutional values.
You've also probably heard the accusation that the movement started as a reaction to the Obama presidency. This is impossible because at that point in 2007, none of us had ever heard of Obama, an unknown man of little accomplishment, at best an obscure Senator who was known for missing many votes. According to GovTrack "Obama was a far-left Democrat according to GovTrack's own analysis of bill sponsorship from Obama’s time serving in the Senate. From January 2005 to October 2008, Obama missed 314 of 1,300 roll call votes, which is 24.2%. This is worse than the median of 2.2% among the lifetime records of senators serving in Oct 2008."

In 2007 the tea party was a reaction to the policies of the Federal Reserve, IRS/taxes, Iraq War, Patriot Act (now NDAA and NSA) unprotected borders, and lack of integrity of the voting process, especially in the primaries and caucuses.
Sadly, a handful of GOP consultants and fundamentalists came along in 2009 and started using the movement's name. Since then, they've succeeded in extracting a bundle of money from the unsuspecting, and have monopolized the airwaves in the mainstream media, although never given a mandate to do so by the grassroots.
As for who WAS responsible for this recent dog and pony show known as the '"shutdown"' we look to the only person who had the power, and that was Obama.

On the eve of the shutdown, Sept. 30, the administration already had barricades and cones in place. Republicans walked into a trap set up by Valerie Jarrett, and Obama'."
Apparently, signs used were pre-printed and ready to go, long before the vote was taken.

To most of us who decry big government, this "shutdown" was not even real. It was merely indicative of another clever Obama-style manipulation of the public perception. Most of the biggest and most egregious parts of government were still running. Obama had purposely ordered the "shutdown" of small services that would specifically hurt the people — cancer treatments for children denied, unattended memorials for veterans closed, parks and private campgrounds barricaded, handles were ordered removed from water fountains so that joggers couldn't take a drink. These were just a few of the most cruel examples. Obama had even tried to stop fisherman from accessing the ocean. Seniors on tour buses were barred from stopping at rest rooms, with park police holding them at bay in their hotel rooms. These actions demonstrate the dark heart of a man seemingly afflicted by some sort of mental illness.
An angry Park Service ranger in Washington confirmed the intent. He said of the harassment: “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”
Any bills offered to get government reopened, and there were about 8, were ordered killed by Obama. Instead, he ordered the phony "shutdown" extended.
Now that millions are facing canceled insurance policies (I'm a victim) or up to 145% premium increases and/or lost work hours, the public has come to realize why big pharma and insurance companies were actually the ones who helped craft this terrible piece of legislation. They stood to gain. While protesting Obamacare in the streets in 2009, we were assaulted by angry progressives who ridiculously accused us of "working for insurance companies". But we knew then insurance companies, strangely silent, were complicit. Liberal bloggers now admit all that and more. Tirge Caps of Daily Kos complained that this was not a "reform for the people" and one self-described far-left commenter declared that Obamacare was "fascism" while lamenting the fact that "progressives" instituted it.
"In our particular case, my wife and I, age 60 and 62: health insurance is rising 129% on Jan 1, 2014. So much for affordable care for all Americans and "keeping your doctors." The Blame goes to us for complacence, to Obama for lying, to Kaiser for greed and corruption, and to modern progressives in general for using fascist means to achieve social goals."

When Ted Cruz attempted to slow down the effects of this egregious program, he was only doing his job in responding correctly to what 77% of the grassroots are now asking for — that the program be repealed or delayed.

This was no "teaparty shutdown". Not at all. If it had been in the power of the grassroots to shut anything down, we are pretty sure the "tea party" would have instructed our military to continue to protect our borders from the enemies without and within, a very essential service, but shut down (for good!) many things including Obama's favorite golf course, Michelle's expensive vacations, the IRS, the Federal Reserve, the Dept of Ed, EPA, HUD, DOT, DHS, FBI, CIA, DHS, DEA, NSA, and any number of other intrusive and unconstitutional agencies that rob our freedoms daily. Some of these agencies are used regularly by Obama to circumvent the law and promote his global utopian tyranny. Other countries think we "rich" Americans spend too much money on health care. Obamacare will definitely put a stop to that. Only we won't realize the savings in money...
Yes sorry to say, had this been a real shutdown orchestrated by the "tea party", children with cancer, visiting veterans, thirsty joggers, and vacationing seniors would never have seen such undeserved vindictiveness as they suffered under the most spendthrifty president in history, Barack Hussein Obama.
