NH Is A Leader In Health Care, New Report Says: Here's Why

New Hampshire has the sixth-best health care system in America, WalletHub said, despite some ups and downs.

New Hampshire is one of the country's leaders in health care, according to a new study. WalletHub, a personal finance website, measured the Granite State on 43 measures of health care cost, accessibility and outcome, ranking it sixth overall in America.

New Hampshire's lofty mark is buoyed by a No. 2 ranking in outcomes, behind only Massachusetts. It also boasts a No. 8 ranking in access.

The state doesn't stand out in any one category, but its physician Medicare-acceptance rate is second and percentage of insured children is sixth. New Hampshire also has the fourth-lowest infant mortality rate.

The cost is what's holding New Hampshire back, according to the study. New Hampshire ranked 40th out of 50 states and Washington D.C. in cost, despite having the 15th-lowest average monthly insurance premium in the country.

New Hampshire was also dinged for being the state with the lowest percentage of medical residents retained and having the 48th-highest cancer rate in America.

Minnesota is the best state for health care, according to the study, followed by Massachusetts, Rhode Island, D.C. and Vermont.
