Second NH Inmate Placed On Escape Status

MANCHESTER, NH — A second inmate from the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester has been placed on walkaway status, according to New Hampshire Department of Corrections this afternoon. Isthmian Aaron Smith, 55, formerly of Enfield, left his place of work at noon on July 10, 2017, and reportedly failed to return. Smith is serving multiple concurrent sentences after being admitted to the New Hampshire State Prison in September of last year on multiple charges, according to Jeffrey Lyons, a public information officer for the NH DOC.

Smith was sentenced in Grafton County Superior Court in October 2016, 1.5 to four years for theft and 1.5 to four years for habitual offender. He is also serving sentences of two to four years from Hillsborough County Superior Court North for receiving stolen property and possession of heroin, and another case in Merrimack County Superior Court. He would have been eligible to be released on parole on Jan. 4, 2018, with a maximum release date of October 9, 2021.

Smith is described as an African-American man, 5 foot, 6 inches tall, 182 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. He is due back at Calumet at 9 p.m. tonight.
Michael Chiasson Jr. was placed on escape status on Friday night after allegedly ran away from an officer at Calumet.
The New Hampshire Department of Corrections Investigations Bureau and the New Hampshire State Police are investigating these cases. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact New Hampshire State Police or their local law enforcement agency.
