• Applachian Trail hiker rescued after splinting own leg (mychamplainvalley.com) — A recent Appalachian Trail rescue near Mount Garfield also highlights a serious fall last week at a hut in nearby Bethlehem, underscoring the risks local hikers face in the White Mountains. Rescuers carried an injured Indiana hiker more than four miles to safety, and officials are urging anyone heading into the backcountry around Bethlehem to consider a Hike Safe card to support future rescue efforts.
