Concord, Hampton, Windham, Other Students Win $2,500 2023 National Merit Scholarships

CONCORD, NH — A dozen high school students in New Hampshire won National Merit $2,500 Scholarships for 2023.

The winners were announced Tuesday. The 12 students and more than 2,400 others were chosen from 15,000 finalists. This year’s program began in October 2021 when juniors took the PSAT/NMSQT as part of an initial screening program. Last fall, the highest-scoring participants in each state — less than 1 percent of the country’s high school seniors, were named semifinalists.

National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Each state’s winners are based on the percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

Students who won include:

• Kaleb Houle-Lawrence of Alstead who attends Fall Mountain Regional High School in Langdon, with a probable career field in education.
• Anshul Rastogi, a homeschooler in Concord with an undecided career field.
• Jacob L. Lebroda of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, with a probable career field in international business.
• Alec J. Wydra of Gorham High School, with a probably career field in applied mathematics.
• Alyona A. Latsilnik of Greenland, who attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, with a probable career field of oncology.
• Emily M. Currie of Hampton, who attends Berwick Academy in South Berwick, Maine, with a probable career field of biomedical engineering.
• Lauren K. Hall of Hanover of Hanover High School, with an undecided career field.
• Sarah A. Hall of Hanover of Hanover High School, with a probable career field of foreign service.
• Sora S. Shirai of Hanover of Hanover High School, with a probable career field of biomedicine.
• William K. Longtin of Hollis, who attends Hollis-Brookline High School, with a probable career field in neuroscience.
• Ryanne E. McCann of Weare, who attends Goffstown Area High School in Goffstown, with a probable career field psychology.
• Heather P. Brayer of Windham High School, with a probable career field of electrical engineering.
