18th Annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast

The Greater Concord Area Task Force Against Racism and Intolerance invites you to join them for the 18th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday, November 21 from 7:15am-9am at the Grappone Conference Center. This year’s theme is ”Being a Good Samaritan” and will feature guest speaker Juliana Eades, Executive Director of the NH Community Loan Fund and NH Business Review’s 2013 Outstanding Woman in Business.

What is a “Good Samaritan?” Being a Good Samaritan means giving a helping hand or providing resources to our neighbors in need, such as the homeless, the elderly (many of whom are homebound), refugees, poor children (many of whom are hungry or homeless) and any others who are in need.

“The Concord Area Task Force Against Racism and Intolerance is dedicated to ensure that we live and work in a healthy community. The annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is an opportunity for community members to gather together, to share a meal and to learn what is being done, or needs to be done, to help those less fortunate than we are. The goal of each breakfast is to raise our community consciousness in a welcoming gathering,” said Helen McGlashan, Chair of the Task Force.

In 1997, Mayor Bill Veroneau (a founding member of the Task Force) established the first Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. That breakfast began a continuing series of Mayor’s Prayer Breakfasts, meetings, picnics and rounds of study and community circles that continue to occur annually to ensure that Concord continues to be a city that is welcoming to all who live here. Mayor Jim Bouley continues the tradition of the Prayer Breakfasts.

In the past 18 years, funds from the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast have been contributed to the community in many, mission-driven, meaningful ways such as: assisting the Mayor in his efforts to provide a winter shelter for homeless families in Concord, offering a reward through Crimeline in response to a request by the Concord Police Department as they worked to find and arrest the Graffiti Painter in the South End, funding the Concord Multicultural Festival and refugee assistance in the form of transportation for parents to their children’s schools, diapers and other needs.

Tickets are $20 per person and include a full breakfast. They can be purchased at the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, 49 South Main Street, Concord. Please make checks payable to Granite United Way with “Prayer Breakfast” in the memo line.
