Staffers at the school reported that at the end of the school year, June 18, the class stored 15 sleeping bags inside a locked room. The room in question is located on the bottom floor of the west building, according to Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit for the department. Upon returning to school this year, staff discovered that the bags were missing. There were no signs of forced entry to the room.
“School staff has conducted an extensive search for the sleeping bags, in the hopes that they were simply misplaced,” O’Malley noted in the alert. “The bags were not located and it is believed that they had to have been stolen.”
O’Malley stated that staffers believe the theft occurred sometime between June 18, and Aug. 17, 2015.
The reported cost to replace the sleeping bags is estimated to be approximately $1,900.
The bags alleged to have been stolen are reported to be “Peak 1” sleeping bags. They are described as mostly dark orange in color however some are described as red, blue, or brown. They are made of synthetic polyester “fill and shell.” The stolen bags have been in use for approximately 10 years.
