CONCORD, NH — Just in time for the holidays, NHTrust has gifted $3,000 to the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Fund to help New Hampshire residents struggling to pay their energy bills.

Coming at a time "when we are going into winter and the holidays and peoples' finances are already stretched thin," the donation will help those "facing disconnect notices from their electric or natural gas utilities," Neighbor Helping Neighbor's president Matthew Fossum said in a news release.

This help will be available to those who may be facing an energy emergency but don’t qualify for federally funded energy assistance programs, the nonprofit noted.

Founded in 1986, Neighbor Helping Neighbor is made up of representatives from three participating utilities, Eversource Energy, Unitil, and Liberty Utilities along with the five Community Action Agencies across the state.

The agencies take the applications for assistance and determine who is eligible for a supporting grant, while the utilities ask their customers for contributions to the fund and match these contributions, according to the nonprofit.
