5+ Things You Need to Know About this Weekend

Concord's weather plus more.

Here are 5 Things to know about this weekend in the city:

  1. Mostly sunny and in the 60s. The National Weather Service is predicting a nice weekend. On Saturday, expect sun with temperatures in the 60s. Overnight lows drop down into the high 30s. Partly sunny skies will also happen on Sunday, with temps in the mid-60s. Lows will be in the 40s overnight.
  2. Hoops on Wheels. The Granite State Independent Living’s second wheelchair basketball tournament takes place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, at Pembroke Academy. Twenty-one teams, including many folks from Concord and around the region, will be competing.
  3. Drug Take Back. Also on Saturday, the Concord Police Department will be hosting a drug take back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the department headquarters. Bring your unused prescriptions and drop them off for disposal, no questions asked.
  4. Roller Derby opener. Granite State Roller Derby is back in action for its third season at the Everett Arena at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Legislashers take on Mass Attack; the Fighting Finches also compete against the Demolition Dames.
  5. Open mic jazz. Sharon Jones hosts an open mic jazz jam at The Purple Pit from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Plus ... Ryan Conroy is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser to fund his Eagle Project. The dinner will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church on Clinton Street on Saturday, April 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Ryan says there will be spaghetti, salad, and "various other homecooked dishes." All proceeds will go towards purchasing the supplies and materials needed to carry out his Eagle Project - constructing two picnic tables for the church and renovating the church courtyard. There is no set entry fee. All who attend need only bring what they can donate.

Also on Saturday, from 4 to 10 p.m., Hermanos will be celebrating its 29th anniversary with giveaways and fun.
