CONCORD, NH — Absentee ballots for the Sept. 13 primary elections are now available.

David Scanlan, the secretary of state, said city and town clerks have the ballots available for request. He said statutes, executive orders, and guidance from the 2020 elections, specific to COVID 19, coronavirus, and obtaining an absentee ballot, have expired.

Absentee voting will follow the same process it did during the 2018 elections before the pandemic, he said.

The state’s constitution and laws allow voters to access an absentee ballot if they are not home on Election Day, have a disability, or observe a religious commitment on the same day.

A voter’s “delivery agent” can deliver the completed absentee ballot in the affidavit and mailing envelope to the clerk at the polling place on Election Day any time before 5 p.m., Scanlan said.

Absentee ballots returned via the postal service will also be accepted until 5 p.m. on Sept. 13.

With the state primary just around the corner, New Hampshire voters should remember their local and state election officials continue to be their trusted source of election information, Scanlan said. The Secretary of State’s Office was also happy to answer any questions voters may have about New Hampshire’s elections, he said.
